"YOUR MOUNTAIN" is a New Interactive Tool to Help First-Time Visitors to a Ski/Snowboard Area

November 2016 - “Visiting a ski/snowboard area for the first time can be an overwhelming experience,” says Mary Jo Tarallo, executive director for the snow sports industry’s Learn to Ski and Snowboard/Bring a Friend initiative. She adds that many resorts have hosts available to greet newcomers when they first arrive at a location and provide guidance on what is available.

Organizers of Learn to Ski and Snowboard/Bring a Friend have gone one step further in an effort to educate newcomers even before they leave their homes for the slopes. It is called YOUR MOUNTAIN.

Your Mountain is an interactive tool and the newest component to the www.learntoskiandsnowboard.org web site that recently was re-launched with a new look and added content to demystify one’s first experience at a ski resort. It starts out with a cartoon-style façade that includes icons representing standard features typically found at resorts including the base lodge, learning and rental areas, various kinds of chair lifts and surface lifts, ski and snowboard school operations, and more.

Newcomers simply can click on the icons for a series of photos and short descriptions explaining the visuals. Your Mountain is a generic approach designed to provide a “sneak preview of what you will find at most locations”, added Tarallo.

Your Mountain was developed by North Pole Design and is a collaborative effort by various snow sports organizations including the National Ski Areas Association, Professional Ski Instructors of America- American Association of Snowboard Instructors, and the National Ski Patrol – all partners in the Learn to Ski and Snowboard/Bring a Friend initiative.

January is Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month.
