Seven Governors Recognize Winter Recreation Initiative during January

Lakewood, CO. January 17, 2011…..The HEAD Ski Company is giving away a pair of skis is celebration of Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month. Anyone can register at www.skiandsnowboardmonth.org· to win the skis. HEAD also is sponsoring Olympic gold medal winner Bode Miller who is an ambassador for Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month.

Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month (LSSM) began January 1 and continues until January 31, 2011. More than 300 resorts and ski areas throughout the U.S. are participating by offering special deals on lesson packages which typically include a lesson, rentals and a lift ticket. The Web site offers basic information about these winter sports.

Governors in Vermont, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New York, Utah, Oregon and Maine have issued proclamations declaring January Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month. Organizers of the effort urge children and adults to get outside for some outdoor exercise in winter by learning how to ski and snowboard from professional instructors. The National Ski Areas Association also encourages children and adults to wear helmets while on the slopes.

“People now recognize how important regular exercise is for staying healthy,” said Jon Rucker, sales and marketing director for HEAD. ·“Skiing and snowboarding are two excellent recreational activities that can get families and friends outside in the winter and so we are happy to be supporting Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month.”·

The HEAD Ski Company was founded by Howard Head, an aerospace engineer at the Glen L. Martin Company (now Lockheed-Martin) n Baltimore, MD. Mr. Head developed the first laminated metal ski. The Head Ski Company currently is headquartered in Austria.···

Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month is an industry initiative organized by numerous state and regional ski associations, the leading snow sports media outlets, snow sports rep associations, the Professional Ski Instructors of America, the American Association of Snowboard Instructors, SnowSports Industries America, the National Ski Patrol, and the National Ski Areas Association.
