"Get Ready" Exercises Help Beginners and Experienced Skiers and Snowboarders Prepare for "the Season"

Week of October 22, 2017 – Each year, fall means many things to many people. For skiers and snowboarders, it means getting ready for “the season”.

“You might be a rank beginner but most experienced recreational skiers and snowboarders will probably agree that a little advanced ‘conditioning’ can go a long way toward a positive on snow experience,” said Mary Jo Tarallo, director for the Learn to Ski and Snowboard/Bring a Friend Initiative.

The www.learntoskiandsnowboard.org web site offers tips on conditioning exercises that are suggested to start in the fall. It also includes information on suggested foods to eat especially when outside in colder weather and the importance of staying hydrated when cold temperatures are the norm.

The article points out the importance of leg strength and the need to keep the core strong. The exercises can be done in one’s home. Some exercises suggest a helpful tool such as an exercise ball.
